The referral source for a request is generally either a hospital or a GP clinic. Hospitals within a region generally share clinicians, and these regions are defined as Parent Organisations, as originally designated by the Connecting for Health organisation.
Alhough technically GP clinics don't have Parent Organisations, because each referral source in HiLIS requires a parent organisation, GP clinics use their practice code as the parent organisation.
Hospital organisation codes always have 3 characters, and GP surgeries & clinics have 6 characters. These details should in the first instance be supplied by CfH documentation. Non-UK locations will require user-defined codes. See examples below.
Regional organisation code for hospitals (eg RA7), GP practice code (eg B86038), non-UK location (eg 'ARAH') - see below for corresponding descriptions.
Location description, for example 'UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS BRISTOL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST', 'YEADON & NETHERFIELD SURGERY, LS20 9HE', 'ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL'.
